|About the Book|
The Litany is a road memoir set in the San Joaquin Valley in California. It plies the two main roads across the Central Valley--the old road, Highway 99 and Interstate 5, the new road--between Southern California and the Bay Area. At times it climbs the High Sierras to the cabin at Huntington Lake, or goes around the back to Mammoth Lakes.Susan Pepper Robbins wishes she had written the Litany. She compares the writing to Doris Lessing, Joan Didion, and Wallace Stevens. Fred Brandow also made the comparison to Didion. He thought the book deserved the Pushcart Prize.
